See the Motorcycle?

A picture is worth a thousand words.

The Honda rider was traveling at such a "very high speed", his reaction time was not sufficient enough to avoid this accident. Swedish Police estimate a speed of ~250 KM/h (155mph) before the bike hit the slow moving car side-on at an intersection. At that speed, they predicted that the rider's reaction time (once the vehicle came into view) wasn't sufficient enough for him to even apply the brakes. The car had two passengers and the bike rider was found INSIDE the car with them. The Volkswagen actually flipped over from the force of impact and landed 10 feet from where the collision took place.

All three involved (two in car and rider) were killed instantly. This graphic demonstration was placed at the Stockholm Motorcycle Fair by the Swedish Police and Road Safety Department. The sign above the display also noted that the rider had only recently obtained his license.

At 250 KM (155 mph) the operator is traveling at 227 feet per second. With normal reaction time to SEE-DECIDE-REACT of 1.6 seconds the above operator would have traveled over 363 feet while making a decision on what actions to take. In this incident the Swedish police indicate that no actions were taken.

First of all, not many people are going to see the crotch rocket coming on a residential street at 85 mph when people's expectation is that traffic is traveling at 25-30 mph, cell phone or no cell phone. I hate those crotch rocket punks as it is making all that noise and endangering everyone as they blow by with their backwards baseball caps. When I hear about about one of those punks wiping out, I always hope that they are the only ones killed and no innocent by-standards.

The emphasis of this e-mail should not be the cell phone while driving, but the worthless inconsiderate piece of sh*t driving 85 mph, not the driver with the cell phone. I'm certain this did not happen on an interstate. The two in the vehicle are victims of a suicide bomber as far as I'm concerned. I just glad the crotch rocket punk is a goner as well.

hey mark anytime you ever wanna talk sh*t again feel free to come see me! I myself am a crotch rocket rider however I'm not one that acts ignorant while on the motorcycle....I have two beautiful children and a wife and I value my life as well as others....I agree that the rider shouldn't have been traveling that fast but before you run your mouth about all bikers put your mouth running ass on one for a day ride out and see how many people don't see you coming even at a lower speed. All I'm saying before talking so much trash about riders and classify all of us to a group know what your saying first...cell phone or not you are correct the rider shouldn't have been going that fast however if your ever man enough to ride and you can shut your mouth long enough to see it from a real riders stand point you might just realize that us riders are the ones at risk 99.9% of the time and it's because most don't see us let alone look for us....think before you speak next time

Yes I do agree most drivers do not look out for motorcycles. However this was a tragic event for all three involved. I do agree that the driver of the motor cycle should not have been going so fast.
Jc78 you are correct that not all riders are reckless. Thank God.

I agree with jc78 totally. I agree that this MC driver was going in an insanely excessive speed. But it's totally wrong to clump all MC drivers in the kind of category that Mark did. I am a MC driver as well, and my son rides a crotch rocket. He is not a "Punk who blows by with his baseball cap on backwards". By the way, I do wear a baseball cap backwards on occasion. Do you want me dead too? We consider MC riding a Sport, and are very respectful when riding. We have to be on our toes 100% when riding, more so than people driving cars, because those "punk adult drivers" don't watch what they're doing. I can tell you that not once have we been the near cause of an accident, but have been the victims of near accidents due to idiots in cars not paying attention, for whatever reason, cell phone or not. I agree that the people in this car were victims of a suicide bomber. IN THIS CASE. We DO NOT all drive like this. As jc78 said, most of us out here riding value our lives, and do not want to die riding. Most MC accidents are NOT the MC drivers fault, it's the idiots in the car that don't respect EVERYONE on the road. I ride a MC, drive a car, ride a bicycle, and walk on the road. Any of us can be killed at any time doing those things. Everytime we hit the road we are putting our lives in each others hands, and so the message should be for everybody to look out for everybody anytime you're on the road. I do believe this story was poorly focused on the VW driver and the cell phone, once I saw the research on it. But I think it's a good opportunity to address both issues. We should be putting our cell phones in the back seat. And Mark, you're a HUGE ASSHOLE to be glad that someone is dead. What if it were one of your loved ones? Would you still want him dead? This was tragic for all involved. And I do believe in Karma. So watch your driving.

It wasn't an 85 MPH impact, it was more like 155 MPH in Sweden. The fact is everyone should be safer on the roads. Put down the cell phone, drive the speed limits and pay a t t e n t i o n ! Having been rearended by an a-wipe reaching for his ringing cell phone, I get ticked when I see A-holes texting while driving. Half the time they are weaving all over the damned place.

You are not that important! Put down the cell phone people and just freaking drive.

I agree with JC78; one of the reasons I gave up motorcycling was because of the ignorance of a lot of car drivers. Even with my headlight on all the time, car drivers seemed not able to see me, evenb at slow speed. I put this down to them thinking that most 2 wheeled vehicles are 25-30mph mopeds.
